What a full verification returns
A paid check adds the live mailbox conversation, and every address comes back in one of four groups.
- Deliverable
- A real mailbox sits behind this address, and the recipient server agreed to take mail for it. Send it.
- Catch-all
- This domain takes mail for any address at all, so the particular mailbox stays unproven. No tool can settle it, ours included. Weigh that before you send.
- Invalid
- The mail server rejected the address. It does not exist and a send will hard bounce. Remove it.
- Unknown
- The server did not give a usable answer. We refund the credit rather than guess, and never charge for it.

About this tool
How does the free checker work?
It runs the checks that are accurate from a browser: whether the address is correctly formed, whether the domain looks like a misspelling of a large consumer provider, whether it is a shared team inbox, and whether the domain appears on our disposable list. Confirming the mailbox itself needs a live SMTP conversation from our verification nodes, which is what a free account gives you.
Will checking an address send an email to it?
No. Verification opens a conversation with the mail server and asks whether it would accept mail for that address. The conversation is closed before any message is handed over, so nothing is ever delivered and the person on the other end sees nothing.
How accurate is SMTP verification?
For an ordinary mailbox on an ordinary domain it is highly reliable, because the server itself tells you whether the address exists. The exception is a catch-all domain, which answers yes to everything. No tool can resolve those, and any tool claiming otherwise is guessing. We label them catch-all rather than pretending.
